Rabbis for Human Rights provides crucial supplies to Palestinian neighbors in the Negev and West Bank

Rabbis for Human Rights (RHR) is an Israeli organization founded in 1988. With a membership of over one hundred and twenty rabbis and rabbinical students dedicated to the voice of Jewish tradition in the field of human rights, RHR is politically non-partisan and brings together Jewish spiritual leaders from a variety of religious traditions within Judaism.

As an ALLMEP member, Rabbis for Human Rights is dedicated to the project of peacebuilding between Israelis and Palestinians.

Though the group has long been known for dispatching rabbis to protect Palestinians from settler violence during the harvest, RHR has been increasing its other activities aimed at helping their Arab neighbors. One such project is the delivery of food boxes to vulnerable families, which Rabbis for Human Rights is doing in partnership with fellow mutual aid  organization Culture of Solidarity.

Anton Goodman, Director of Partnerships for Rabbis for Human Rights, shared video footage of his organization’s work packing up food boxes for members of unrecognized villages near Beer Sheva in the Negev desert.

“The members of the unrecognized villages are always close to hunger,” said Yaela Raanan, who helped direct the distribution of food boxes in the Negev. “And so with this war which makes leaving the house more scary both because of the rockets and because of the increased racism, there’s less people who go to work, many of the jobs have been just closed down.”

Rabbis for Human Rights also delivered food boxes to Bethlehem. Even though all the entrances into Jerusalem were closed off, Anton and other members of the organization climbed over a barrier to deliver the boxes into the town manually.
