ALLMEP President and Founder, Avi Meyerstein, joins members in meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, Wobke Hoekstra

Although he was on the ground for less than 24 hours, Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wobke Hoekstra, made it a priority to sit down with the Israeli and Palestinian peacebuilders in ALLMEP during his visit to the region last week. ALLMEP President and Founder, Avi Meyerstein, joined leaders of member organizations Parents Circle Families Forum, Tech2Peace, EcoPeace, Combatants for Peace, and Bridging Insights for the conversation.

As they went around the room, each peacebuilding leader described the impact their work has in transforming people’s attitudes and improving lives even as they face great obstacles and need significantly more international support in order to scale up and reach critical mass. They also expressed their gratitude for Dutch leadership on the issue. The Foreign Minister engaged thoughtfully with each person about the challenges and opportunities facing the peacebuilding field, including what third parties like the Netherlands can do in support.

“During such a short visit to the region, it was especially meaningful that the Foreign Minister chose to spend so much time with the peacebuilders — not just for a photo op but for a deep conversation about how they are creating real change and how the Netherlands, the EU, and the world can lean in and scale up their efforts and impact,” said Meyerstein after the meeting.

The Foreign Minister was joined by senior advisors from the Netherlands, as well as Dutch Ambassador to Israel Hans Docter, Representative to the Palestinian Territories Kees van Baar, and First Secretary Willem Molenaar. The Netherlands has been a longtime supporter both with its voice and its funds of efforts to build reconciliation and cooperation between Israelis and Palestinians.
