2016 Quartet report includes unprecedented emphasis on civil society, people-to-people

The Quartet on the Middle East has released its annual report and took an unprecedented step of referring to civil society and people-to-people work as pivotal for the establishment of lasting people between Israel and Palestine. The Quartet report states that both groups should increase economic, educational, professional and cultural interaction to thwart extremism and strengthen the fundamentals of peace.

The 10th and final recommendation of the Quartet is:

“Both parties should foster a climate of tolerance, including through increasing interaction and cooperation in a variety of fields – economic, professional, educational, cultural – that strengthen the foundations for peace and countering extremism.”
